About me.
My name is Paul Henderson and I have worked in the multimedia field since 2011.
Following graduation from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism in 2011, I started working at the Lansing State Journal as a multimedia journalist. There, I covered breaking news, community events, and sports. My work was recognized with an Associated Press award for a sports feature video.
In 2013, I was hired as the chief video storyteller at UnoDeuce Multimedia. There, I helped nonprofits, community groups, and commercial clients tell their stories through the power of video.
My career in higher education began in 2017 when I joined Central Michigan University (CMU) as the assistant director of video production for the University Communications office. This role ignited (Fire Up, Chips!) my passion for higher education. I had the opportunity to tell the stories of nationally and world renowned researchers, show impactful student experiences, and collaborate with teams across the university.
My work gained recognition, appearing on CNN Global, BBC, Google's Year in Review, and local news affiliates. During my tenure, I was awarded two Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) awards.
I had the privilege to mentor several students during my tenure which was one of my favorite parts of my role.
Additionally, I produced and edited television commercials, and was responsible for the university president’s video content.
In 2022, I leveraged my experience at CMU to begin my current position as Communications Manager for Michigan State University's Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program( Go Green!). Here, I utilize data-driven decision making for paid and organic social media, identify creative story angles, understand marketing needs for a graduate program, and connect effectively with a student audience.
What I enjoy most about working in higher education is collaborating on projects with team members, finding relevant and creative story angles, and mentoring students.
